When SFI 2026 payments actually arrive

Applying is one question; when the money lands is another. The good news is that SFI 2026's payment mechanics are published and predictable — once your agreement starts, you can pencil the instalments into the calendar.

From offer to agreement

When your application is approved, you're sent an agreement offer to accept. Your agreement then usually starts on the first day of the calendar month after you accept. Accept in October, and the agreement runs from 1 November — the clock for payments starts there, not on the day you applied.

The payment rhythm

Your agreement's total annual payment is split into 4 quarterly instalments, paid automatically by bank transfer. The first usually arrives in month 4 of the agreement, and the rest follow every three months. There's no invoice to raise and no claim to submit for each instalment — the schedule runs on its own.

A worked example

Say you apply in Window 2, the offer comes through, and you accept it in October 2026. The agreement starts on 1 November. The first instalment usually arrives in February 2027, then May, August and November — a quarter of the annual payment each time, for each year of the agreement.

The one thing that gates a payment

Each agreement year, you must submit an annual declaration before the fourth instalment is paid — confirming you've done what the agreement says. It's the only instalment with a condition attached, and it's a formality if your records are in order. Keeping evidence as you go — photos when you do the work, not reconstructed months later — is what makes it one.

Always check GOV.UK for the current rules — this page is not the official source, and DEFRA's own wording is "usually" on both the start date and the first instalment, so treat the timeline as the normal case rather than a promise. FieldBook never submits for you: you apply through the official Rural Payments service.
