CAHL3 · Farmland wildlife (arable / horticultural)
Grassy field corners or blocks
£590 per hectare, per year
Where it applies
Arable, Horticultural, Temporary grassland, Permanent crops
Eligibility conditions
- Below the moorland line
What you'll do
Take awkward arable or horticultural corners or blocks out of cropping and let tussocky grass develop — sow a grass mix or let it regenerate naturally, established within 12 months (autumn is ideal). Keep an intact, undisturbed sward: once established, no vehicles, heavy grazing or regular cutting (cut only to control weeds), no fertiliser or pesticides except spot-treating problem weeds, and don't disturb nesting birds.
Evidence to keep
- Photos of the established corner or block with its parcel reference
- A dated establishment record (sown or natural regeneration)
- Seed invoices, if sown
When
- Sep–Oct: Establish within 12 months (autumn ideal) (first year)
